The British star, who took home an Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG Award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, received a nod for his role as transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.
Redmayne will compete against Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who was nominated for his titular role in Steve Jobs; Bryan Cranston, who received a nod for his portrayal of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Trumbo; Johnny Depp, who won plaudits for his role as Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger and Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the highly anticipate revenge epic The Revenant.
The last actor to win two consecutive Oscars was Tom Hanks, who took home statues for Philadelphia in 1993 and Forrest Gump in 1994.
British actors Idris Elba and Mark Rylance also scored nominations for their work in both film and television and will compete against each other in two categories.
Elba was nominated for an SAG award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or miniseries for his role as DCI John Luther in BBC drama Luther, while Rylance was honoured for his role in period drama Wolf Hall.
Elba and Rylance also scored nominations for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role in a motion picture. The SAG Awards hand out a best cast gong instead of a best picture award. The other films competing in that category are Trumbo, NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, financial drama The Big Short and Spotlight, about the Boston Globe's investigation into sex abuse in the Catholic Church.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place in Los Angeles on January 30.
Dame Helen Mirren was also nominated in multiple categories, scoring nods for her lead performance in Woman In Gold and her supporting role as Hedda Hopper in Trumbo. She added a third mention as part of the nominated ensemble cast for Trumbo.
Mirren will compete against Irish actress Saoirse Ronan for the lead actress gong. Ronan was honoured for her role as a homesick immigrant in Brooklyn, as well as Cate Blanchett for Carol, Brie Larson for Room and Sarah Silverman for I Smile Back.
In the supporting actress category she is nominated alongside Kate Winslet for her role as Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs, Rooney Mara for Carol, Rachel McAdams for Spotlight and Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl.
Downton Abbey, which has been hugely successful in the United States, was nominated for best drama ensemble, while Dame Maggie Smith was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for her portrayal of the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
The period drama will compete against Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men for the award.
The nominations were announced by Mom actress Anna Faris and Avengers star Anthony Mackie at the SilverScreen Theatre in West Hollywood.
The nominees are chosen by panels made up of 2,200 randomly selected members of the union before 116,000 SAG-AFTRA members cast their ballots for the winners.

Watch the first trailer for Steven Spielberg's adaptation of The BFG

Steven Spielberg has been working on a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFGsince 2014, and Disney's offered up the first glimpse at the fruit of his labor by releasing a trailer this morning. Dahl's 1982 dark fantasy follows an orphan plucked from her home by the world's lone big, friendly giant (the titular BFG), who needs her help keeping his human-hungry brethren from eating children.
The trailer leaves almost everything about the movie's giants and their home country up to the imagination, focusing instead on the curious, terrified Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) and the BFG's grasping hand. English actor Mark Rylance is bringing the BFG to life, making the movie his second straight collaboration with Spielberg. (They worked together on this year's thrillerBridge of Spies.) Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall, and Jemaine Clement round out the cast, and Spielberg's working with a screenplay from E.T. writer Melissa Mathison. When it comes to making thrilling, kid-friendly art, it's hard to think of two names bigger than Spielberg and Dahl — The BFG's promising on pedigree alone.
The movie's scheduled to hit theaters on July 1st, 2016

This Is Why You Don’t Sell the One Copy of Your Album for $two Million

That's Why You Don’t Sell the One Copy of Album for $2 Million that you own..

The news that Wu-Tang Clan had recorded an album of which there would only be one copy, sold for millions of dollars at auction, with the stipulation that it couldn’t be resold, has inspired debate for more than a year. Some people, like RZA, have argued that the plan is a radical statement on behalf of the value of music and the album format. Others have argued that it’s an insult to fans, acapitulation to traditional ideas about exclusivity and power that rap once railed against, and a demonstration of how capitalism can hurt art.
The debate is now settled. Wu-Tang has made a horrible mistake.
Once Upon a Time in Shaolin has been sold to Martin Shkreli, the 32-year-old pharmaceutical executive who triggered outrage worldwide earlier this year when his company increased the price of a drug used to treat some AIDS sufferers by 5000 percent—from $13.50 to $750 a tablet. Herecently said he wished he’d raised it more. He appears to have bought this album in hopes of scoring dates, and for now, he does not seem interested in letting the public hear it.

The Bloomberg Businessweek article that broke the news of Shkreli’s winning bidquotes him as saying he has not yet listened to the album, even though the deal—for a rumored $2 million—closed months ago. He did delegate to an employee the task of confirming that all the songs were there. So why buy it? He said he made his final decision once the auction-house representative told him that doing so would give him “the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities and rappers who would want to hear it.”
Remedying loneliness with property is an ongoing part of his narrative. When the public anger toward “Pharma Bro” erupted in September, a certain amount of attention went to his dating profiles; our James Hamblin offered a close reading of his OK Cupid page, where Shkreli listed his income at more than a million dollars. The Bloomberg story mentions that on Twitter, he’d joked about buying Katy Perry’s guitar to get a date with her. And it quotes him as saying he could be convinced to listen to Shaolin “if Taylor Swift wants to hear it or something like that.” Barring that, he’s saving it “for a rainy day.”
Maybe he’s just trolling. After the news broke he’d bought the album, he tweeted out a YouTube link: “Live streaming. Talking music, drugs and stuff. May play something special.” In the time I’ve been tuning in, he’s just played emo metal on Spotify while looking into the camera with an expression that could be used to illustrate the word “smug.” Some of the commenters appear to be Wu-Tang fans, begging him to leak Once Upon a Time in Shaolin or at least play a song. “Album is in a vault,” he replied. “I probably won't listen to it for years.” On Twitter, he also wrote, “If there is a curious gap in your favorite artist’s discography, well, now you know why.”
